After crossing over the beautifully built marsh boardwalk and bridge , we made our way further into the Gull Crest Trail. The weather was perfect for a stroll through the trees and other than a couple of mountain bikers, we had the trail to ourselves. It wasn’t a particularly long trail, but it branched and looped several times which did a lot to keep the hike interesting.
One much appreciated surprise was discovering a large stretch of path lined with fruit-filled black-berry bushes. This was somewhat unexpected since the berry season in Maine should be about over by now. We helped ourselves to a few handfuls (and then a few more on our way back) as we continued our hike. Another fun aspect of the hike was spotting wildlife. Lori managed to capture an especially cute chipmunk shot by carefully sneaking up on it.

yummy ^-^
Yummy! I am loving the forest path and the berry closeup photo! One of the best things I know is eating freshly picked berries .
I totally agree =). Fresh berries are the best!
Aww. I miss hiking and discovering unfamiliar flora. Your photos of trails are calling me… I have to travel again!
That’s great! I hope you get a chance to go exploring soon.
Nice closeups. We missed the berries in upstate New York, but apple-picking is just around the corner…
I’m very excited for apple picking. I’ve never done it before but I know Maine has lots of great orchards.
