We planned a four hour stop over in Nagoya on our way home so that we could take a trip to the Nagoya Castle. The castle was finished in 1612 was in one of the most important castle towns during the Edo Period. Unfortunately during the air raids of World War II most of the main castle towers and the palace were burnt down. Several paintings and guard towers survived the fires and today are protected cultural assets. When we were there construction was underway to rebuild the castle’s keep (called a Donjon).
