Takayama Jinya Entrance Old Government Building Edo Period - Japan Photos

There are many bridges that cross Takayama’s main river, Miyagawa, but the most famous is the stunning red bridge named Nakabashi. Located within the historic district of Takayama, it is heavily trafficked in the day time. It also leads to an old government building from the Edo period called Takayama Jinya which is protected an important cultural asset since it is one of the only buildings left of its kind.

One of the first things that grabbed my interest and made me intent on visiting Takayama was an article by the Japan Times that featured Nakabashi in one of the photos. It felt very satisfying to visit that inspirational bridge in person.
