Help Us Help Japan: Sending $10,000 of Relief

It is my pleasure to announce that through your generous support we have met and exceeded our fundraising goal for earthquake and tsunami relief aid! View the full update here. In case there is anyone who still wishes to donate, we are leaving the Samaritan’s Purse Firstgiving website active until July and will also tally any additional donations to the Red Cross.

Earthquake and Tsunami Vicitims Lost Everything

Tsunami Devastates Japan

Japan has been devastated by an 8.9 earthquake which triggered a 30 ft tsunami. The damage is unreal. Bullet trains have gone missing, nuclear power plants have blown, the death toll is estimated to reach over 10,000, and this is only in the first few days. Living here, I can attest the country is in a state of crisis. (I am fine, thank you friends and family for the prayers and concern though.) Being aware of the situation is not enough.

From South to the North, two other adventurers and I are touring the length of Japan by bicycle starting April 14, 2011. Collectively we will be riding about 10,000 km. Please help us raise $1 per km to send $10,000 to help those suffering from the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Any amount is gratefully appreciated. The three of us are covering the cost of the ride completely on our own so 100% of all donations go directly towards helping those in need.  Even if everyone we contact gives $10 we will reach our goal!

You can help people affected by disasters like the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, as well as countless crises at home and around the world, by making a donation to support American Red Cross Disaster Relief.  Your gift enables the Red Cross to prepare for and provide shelter, food, emotional support and other assistance in response to disasters.  The American Red Cross name is used with its permission, which in no way constitutes an endorsement, express or implied, of any product, service, company, individual or political position.

This article used to be “Send Aid to Japan in One Click: Share to Care.” The initial “Share to Care” program presented in this article has been discontinued as it proved too complicated and there are much more effective ways for people to give. The money pledged by those involved will be donated to Samaritans Purse in sponsorship of the Japan by Bicycle charity ride.
