RTW Travel: Invaluable Lessons Learned

People travel for different reasons. These reasons don’t always have to be something deep like finding yourself or God – some people travel just to get away from work and a boring 9/5 lifestyle.

I believe that no one can travel and return the same person they were before they left.

No matter what your reasons for travel are, however, everyone returns with some important lessons learned. I believe that no one can travel and return the same person they were before they left.

Everyone who has traveled knows that travel opens your eyes to a new perspective – a new way of looking at the world. This new perspective is different for everyone; we all learn different things from the same experiences.

Here are a few things traveling RTW has taught me:

To Think Twice Before Making An Assumption

Sofia from As We Travel in BaliThings are not always as they seem, especially not in a new culture. Body language works to an extent, but isn’t always the same everywhere. If you think someone is being arrogant or mean, think twice before making an assumption. Often it’s just a misunderstanding in body language, nothing else.

We’re All “same same” – But Different

No matter what culture, country, class or religion you’re from, we all have the same needs. We all love, laugh and live for the same things – just in different ways and variations. This is how two people from two different worlds can still connect.

How To Appreciate The Moment

In the West we’re always looking forward, which is important, but we often forget to just stop and live for the moment.

While traveling I’ve met so many inspiring people who truly live in the now. This is also easier when you have no obligations, travel gives space for the now, and sometimes forces you to be right there right then.

You don’t need to meditate on it, just get on the nearest local transport and realize how you have to be alert, you can just drift away.

There Are Several Worlds On This Earth

Nathan from As We Travel at a market in MalaysiaIt’s easy to take things for granted when everyone around you has the same things, but when you travel you see how different people live.

So many families live in ways I could never imagine, in ways we used to hundreds of years ago. It’s exciting to see that there are so many ways to live on this planet, and to get a glimpse of it is what keeps me going.

Age Doesn’t Matter

Where I’m from, people don’t mix the age groups much, but each age group sticks to themselves. It’s been so refreshing to see that this doesn’t have to be the case. Old people can respect young people as equals and vice-versa. We all have something to learn from one another.

How To Create My Own Life

By experiencing different religions and cultures, you see things to their extremity.

By seeing them all in such a short period of time you get a nice overview and can pick and choose what you like from each culture and religion, and create your own perfect life.
